DO NOT take the ACORN TRAIL, it drops down (way down) 3.6 miles and then you will have to go up (way up) 3.6 miles to get back.

Exit to Wrightwood @ the Angeles Crest Highway 2 (another 6 miles on the PCT past the Acorn Trail) to the Angeles Crest Highway 2. Hitch 5 miles (to the right) into Wrightwood. Sometimes Highway 2 is closed, so call California Highway Information 1-800-427-7623.

Resupply at Jensens Finest Foods. BUY 5 DAYS of food to get to Aqua Dulce.

In the PCT register at the Mountain Hardware store, there is a list of Trail Angels who let hikers camp at their homes.

The Pines Motel has hiker rates. Possible ride back to trail.

Full re-supply at the Albertson's - head west on Tehachapi Blvd to the Trucker Road. Go LEFT to West Valley Blvd.

Be sure to get CASH here; last chance before the Sierras.

BUY 7 DAYS of food to get to Kennedy Meadows.

SIDE TRIP TO MT WHITNEY (17 extra miles):
From Crabtree Meadow (PCT MILE 766.3), head to the Crabtree Ranger Station (1.3 miles northeast of Crabtree Meadow). Suggest camping there rather than Guitar Lake, which is often very cold & damp. When returning to the PCT, you don't have to back-track to Crabtree Meadow. Just stay on the JMT heading west and pick up the PCT again in about a mile.

KEARSARGE PASS: PCT MILE 788.9
Take the Kearsarge Pass Trail (PCT MILE 788.9) to Onion Valley. It is 7.5 miles to the trail head at Onion Valley. Then Hitch 13 miles to Independence. Easy to get a ride on week ends; harder on weekdays.
.
Better re-supply destinations are Lone Pine or Bishop.
Independence has the valley market Chevron. Eastern Sierra Transit bus operates weekdays for service between Independence and Bishop (estransit.com).

Independence Court House Motel (760-878-2732) may provide rides for guests.

At Reds Meadow (mile 906.7), take the Reds Meadow Shuttle to the Adventure Center (costs $7). Then take the free Mammoth bus to town.

There is a full resupply at Vons Supermarket. Get some cheese & goodies. Charge up your electronics. It's nine days to the next stop.

Make sure you have enough DEET; this is the beginning of "mosquito hell".

GETTING THERE:
Turn left just before the bridge over Milton Creek & hike a short distance on a use trail to an unpaved road. Go RIGHT on the road to the campground and into Sierra City. The alternate route is 3.1 miles; if you go on the PCT to Highway 49 (another 3 miles), it is still 1.5 miles to the city. Take the alternate; it's shorter.

The Buttes Resort (530-862-1170) is close to the store. Also check out the trail angels offer below.

Resupply at the Sierra City Country Store (530-862-1560). You need to BUY food for FIVE DAYS to get you to Belden.

Note: Local trail angels Bill and Margret Price have two rooms for rent and lots of camping in their back yard. They offer breakfast & dinner for a small charge and can give rides back to the trail.

After crossing Highway 89 (PCT mile 1415.5), there is a trail junction on the right. This is the alternate route and is super cool because you pass the springs that create Burney creek. The trail leads to the park road. The store is up the road on the right.

Getting there:
At Pengra pass (mile 1903.7), go down to the jeep road, TURN RIGHT, and follow the jeep road. Cross the railroad tracks, then walk the jeep road to the right down to the highway. TURN RIGHT on the highway and walk .5 miles When you see a BLM campground on the left, cross the bridge & you'll see the Shelter Cove sign on the left.

Shelter Cove Resort has a small store but it is very expensive and cannot be used for resupply.
